With the imminent release of Google's new Pixel 4 handset, Carphone Warehouse is offering a free Chromebook to all customers placing preorders .
The HP Chromebook 14, to be exact: a reliable little workhorse that earned a four-star verdict when we reviewed it, and one that’s currently on sale for £229. Chromebooks – low-spec laptops that run on Google’s Chrome operating system – were once considered unnecessary bits of tech. But if your laptop use is confined to bog-standard browsing and streaming, then these cheap-and-cheerful devices are more than sufficient. Due to its exceptional build quality, the HP Chromebook 14 is actually one of the pricier on the market.
What should I expect from the Google Pixel 4?
The Pixel 4 is a handset that, due to a series of leaks, has been shrouded in less mystery than its makers would probably like. We’re excited about getting a close-up look at its 90HZ display, smoother than that of its predecessor, as well as seeing how its face-recognition technology fares in the place of fingerprint scanning.
But what we’re really looking forward to is the chance to try out Google’s much-anticipated hands-free Soli technology , which will – in principle – let you perform a range of tasks on the Pixel 4 without so much as a tap. Snooze alarms and skip tracks without actually picking up your phone – it’s a neat party trick.
When can I buy the Google Pixel 4?
The Google Pixel is now available on a preorder basis, and will launch officially on 24 October at Carphone Warehouse. But if you want to take advantage of this offer, make sure you place your order before 28 October. Did we mention that as well as the Chromebook, you’ll also get a £50 gift card that can be redeemed at Currys PC World, Google Play or Just Eat? Yep, that's right... even more free stuff!
